Another One Bites the Dust!

I'm so confused with what day of the week it is!  Yesterday I thought it was is Tuesday!  *sigh*. I'm glad I didn't lose a day!

The week started of with some sewing!!!!  I had taken out a kit I had bought at Chicken Feed Quilts in Coaldale.  It was a fun one and I plan on making another one day out of a different line of fabric.  Here's a couple of bad pictures of the finished top...I even have my binding made so that when I get my friend Kim to quilt it, she can attach the binding too!  Ah Heaven!!!!!!!  Anyway, here they are:

The original pattern did not include a border but I wanted it bigger then 53" x 73" so I added a 6" border.

I have a couple of appointments this week (nails and hair!  I should be making dentist and optometrist appointments but those aren't fun!!!!) and tomorrow I have to cut the grass.  Soon the week, and therefore the month, will be over!!!!  Yikes!!!!!!!!  Back to work August 31!  I have so much more I'd like to get done before then!!!  And I should fit in a visit up north before then too......oh boy, the time will really go quickly!

Today was a busy day and now it feels like Sunday!  I'm glad it's not.  I started off the day having my second Quilters Garage Sale....another successful day!  Sue helped me again and quite a few new ladies were here.  Met a few gals from different guilds in town...I think Sue and I are going to try and start up one that meets in an evening.  All the ones in town meet during the day!  I do still have stuff leftover so will start posting some kits online.

I did get some sewing done this older kit (about 3 years old) that was so quick and easy to do!  Love the retro kind of fabrics.  I still have to quilt it of course!!

A few of my crazy fun neighbors decided last weekend that we should start meeting and coloring.....there are so many grown-up coloring books out there right now and who doesn't love to color!!!!  So today we met to color and have a couple of "pops".  Here's my finished was a fun way to spend the afternoon/evening!

Tomorrow the weather is to turn a bit cooler and might rain so I hope to spend the day in my sewing room!  Wish I could be the type to stay in my pjs all day but just can't do that!!!!!!!  But I must hit the pillow as my eyes are not wanting to stay open!!

A Purpose

I grew up in a small town in Northern Alberta.  In junior high school there were a group of girls one was nice to for fear of being, for lack of a better word, bullied.  For the most part, I got along with these of which was also my best friend, but I was never a part of their 'gang'.  Truth be told, they scared me!  Lol. I was a rule follower, I've never smoked in my life and parties were saved for the odd weekend.  I was a figure skater and badminton player and tried to do well in school....I know, sounds like I was a bit of a goody two shoes...yep, I guess I was.  One of those girls, the one I kind of considered the leader, just posted her 'story' on FB.  (We are now Facebook friends, both of us all grown up and I am no longer scared of her!! Haha). She had a very turbulent life.  I know in life, we all make choices....some good, some bad and many depending on our circumstances at the time.  After reading her story I didn't feel pity.  She made choices that were not good for her mental, physical or emotional well being.  What I do feel is immense pride!  She overcame many obstacles and came out on top!  She is truly lucky to be alive for starters. I'm sure she has regrets and I'm sure there are many years she would like to get back!  But her outlook on life now is amazing and that is so important because you can't get time back but you have to make the best of what time you do have!  She has just completed her Masters degree in Social Work and I know, because of her life experiences, she will help so many people in her life.  I'm sure she has already!  It made me envious too as I thought about what she has and will accomplish in her life and it made me look at my life and wonder if I have a purpose; if I will or have helped someone in any way.  I believe things happen for a reason and that everyone is put on this earth with a purpose intended just for them......and one day, I hope, I will discover mine.

Moving on to something not so deep......I did well at my Quilters Garage Sale and, not wanting to buy more fabric, etc (that would have defeated the purpose) I kind of made a list of things I would want.  I decided on a BBQ (we had never bought one since we moved here soon to be three years ago!), firepit, Roomba (mine died!), Adirondack chairs for the back.....well, I passed on the Roomba (for now) but was able to get the others!!!!!!!!  And with Hubby home, we did a lot of assembly yesterday!

We should have had a fire yesterday but we didn' it's cold and rainy!!!!!!!  I think it's to be nice this weekend though!!!!!

You know how at the bank machines, well at the Royal Bank anyway, they have ads running across the screen.  Now they are advertising the option to take a picture of your cheque to deposit to your account.....and I did a double take the other day because the sample cheque was made out to Jane Matthews!!!!!  My maiden name!!!!!!!!!!!

I have decided to have another Quilters Garage Sale not this weekend but the next.  I still have so much stuff and hope I can get rid of even more before I try the online selling.  I may even add to it!!  I hope the day is as nice as the last one was and that I have great customers once again.....maybe I will be able to get that Roomba!

Sewing Day...and Rain

Last night, after driving into Calgary to pick my daughter up at midnight, we had a thunderstorm.  Now, whenever there is a thunderstorm I always have to start counting.... one one thousand, two one thousand....between the lightening and the I know how far away the storm is (each second is supposed to be a mile).  So needless to say, I don't sleep through them.....I really dislike thunder even though it's just a sound. :-). But then it started to rain....and it was a nice rain all through the night but stopped before noon.  Eventually the sun came out and it was hot and humid!  But when it was raining I thought it would be a great day to sew.  Daughter2 had asked me to make her a tablerunner...her accent colors being aqua and yellow.  So here is what I made today.  It's a quilt as you go...and yes, I made a mistake which meant unsewing half of the darn it was a simple project.

Here is my little helper in the room keeping me company....or not!

You can't really see it but this was our glorious rain!

Hubby is home tomorrow night so I have a few things to get done tomorrow.  Off to bed I go...this is me trying to get to bed's after 11:30!! Argh!!

A Success But.......

I'm sitting in our living room, feeling the wonderful breeze from the ceiling fan....with my feet up and relaxing!  Quilters Garage Sale is over......a success but I still have a ton of stuff leftover!!!!!!!  I'll work on selling some things, like kits, online and go from there.  I had a ton of help from my friend Sue!!!!!!!  THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!!  A HUGE thank you to Chris and Willi for the Tim Hortons coffee, breakfast sandwiches and great visit!!!!!!  These ladies below were my best customers of the day!  I finally thought to take a couple of pictures when the rush passed!

One is a neighbor and one used to live on our street before we moved here....she really wishes she was still here....and the other is her daughter.  Maybe one day our daughters will be quilters and I can go shopping with them too!!!!!!!!
Gorgeous weather, great shoppers and when I get some energy back I will work on selling the rest!!!!!!!

I Think I'm Ready!

I think I am ready for my Quilters Garage Sale on Saturday and I sure hope people come!!!  I've already made two early sales!!  Unless I feel the need to grab more stuff.....which I might go through more kits..we will see.....I think I'm done!  Here are a couple of's not pretty but it's a garage!

The blue bins are full of books....all three big bins!  Lots of kits, fat quarters (in the bins in the front by the door), yardage.......PLEASE all sell!!!!!!!!!!!  I do NOT want to pack it up again!!!!!

Tonight I made a Pinterest recipe....well for the fry bread and made Indian Tacos!  Except for the fact the house still smells from frying them they were delicious!!!  I can't wait to try one, warmed up in the morning, with either honey or butter and cinnamon sugar.  Mmmmmm.  I WILL be making it again.

Tomorrow I have stuff to do in Okotoks (and maybe purge some more....or I could actually sew something!!!)  and Friday will be house cleaning in the morning.  It's hot and a bit smokey around here....fires in BC and Saskatchewan apparently are where we are getting our smoke from.  But there are fires in northern Alberta too.  We need rain!  Everyone needs rain!  Except Texas!  Weird!!!

It Only Took Two Years!!!!

I've always said "Procrastinator" is my middle name.  A couple of things have been hanging over my head.....receipts for insurance (they had to be in by June 22 so 'check'!) and four interior doors needed to be painted from the basement reno because of the flood........and after yesterday I can say "CHECK"

Yes, they are four different doors!  LOL. It took me all day filling nail holes, etc and my body is suffering today but I smile when I go down there now.  I think a lot of what I am feeling is closure.....that disaster is almost 100% behind us.........

Today I was thinking about one of my favorite magazines......the last issue I have is from August 2014....I know, I'm just missing it now!  I am a bit of a magazine-a-holic although I am getting much better!  Anyway, off to Google and I'm sad to say the company that produced it, and quite a few other quilting, crafting magazines, went bankrupt.  Goodbye Create and Decorate.....I'm glad I've kept a few years worth of back issues!

I will be starting to set up for my quilters garage sale tomorrow.  I want to be totally ready to go on or before Friday!  I think I've given myself lots of time.  Lol. Sounds like I will have lots of help that day and I'm looking forward to a fun day!!!!!!!  Fingers crossed everything sells!!!!!!

It's Been Hot!

First off, I have to mention July 1st.  The town sets up music and fireworks at the lake just over from ours.  By evening, you can hear the music as clear as a bell...and it was good!  I set my chair up in the back yard and waited for the fireworks!

It's been hot down here....until this afternoon.  Actually I would say today was the perfect temperature....until the wind came and brought the rain!  Bam, the temperature dropped and it's cooled down considerably!  This is how hot it was yesterday....Zoey was exhausted!  Hahaha
She seriously was sleeping like this!  Weird!!!

I didn't really accomplish much today.  I was feeling like hitting some garage sales or thrift stores but really need nothing....and it's no fun alone.  So I took my stack of magazines outside and tried to read.  Here was my view:

Then my neighbor Deb had to go to Okotoks so I tagged along and I bought some bins to organize my I did get that done this afternoon.  It will be so much easier to see what I have now when I'm looking for wool for a project!

I'm still fighting this cold and am coughing now....frustrating!  I sure hope it passes soon!
