Got Her Done!

The queen sized quilt is done and on a bed in our spare bedroom.  The pattern is Wicked Easy...and they sure are!

It's been crazy windy here the past few days...I think it's province wide.  We even had white caps on the 'lake'!

My neighbor Deb made me a pillow......a belated Christmas gift....she was waiting on the pattern...a huge mix-up!  I love it!!!!

Okay, it's LATE for me and I have work tomorrow!!!!!  Going to be good to get back into a routine!,

The Week Is Over

In my last post I mentioned how I thought my book was arriving for the sew along.....well, it did arrive along with a free pattern, which is adorable too!!!!!!!  Eeeek!!!!  They are amazing!

In her blog quite awhile ago, Lori was making barn blocks....one a week I think, and I remember thinking "I'll just remember the instruction are on her blog".  Well, I didn't and I LoVe barns and guess what is included in the book??????  I was so happy because I had forgotten about them!!!!!  This book is so wonderful!!!!!!!!!! Lots and lots of ideas!

I also mentioned in my last post that I was meeting with my friend Peggy who was from my home town but moved to Ontario a long time ago.  Peggy was a member of our quilt guild and just a sweet lady.  Friday I drove into Calgary to meet her at her daughters house and she fed me egg salad sandwiches and we had the best chin wagging!!  Her hugs are the best squeezy ones which I love!!!!!

That night I realized I only had two days left of my 'vacation' and I had chores to do and I also wanted to get in some sewing since I had accomplished nothing all week.  With a ton of new projects I'd like to start I told myself I had to work on binding three quilts that my friend Kim had quilted a long, long time ago.  The quilts were taking up valuable space in my sewing room so yesterday I completely finished two and have a queen sized half finished (two I did completely by machine and the queen sized one I'm hand stitching down the back).  Here are the completed ones:

A baby boy quilt backed with minky.  I used the Susie's Magic binding technique on this and loved it....a lot of prep work but I didn't have to worry about missing the binding when I stitched it down.

My Little Birdies Stitchery quilt.....started in 2011!!!!!

I WILL finish the other one today in between chores (laundry, grocery shopping,vacuuming, etc).

It was a great week full of some great visits and I'm sad it's over but getting back to routine will be good for me.....looking forward to seeing my little 'students' again too! My neighbor Deb, who is a vice principal at a school just outside of High River, told me last night that the time from now until June just flies by!!!!  I guess we will see!!

Easter is Hippity Hoppity Gone!

Another Easter has come and gone.  All but Daughter2 were here.  We had a yummy supper, the Easter Bunny came, and we did lots of visiting.  My purchased tulips were beautiful:

 Remember in my last post telling you I had met my good friend Kim in Cochrane?  Here are my purchases from the quilt shop.  Nothing exciting....the hockey fabric is for a pillowcase and I've already made dishcloths from the skein of yarn.  The rest is "just because" fabric!

I had another great visit from a friend from up north Judy.  Judy came Monday and stayed overnight before heading off to Edmonton to meet some friends she roomed with in college.  Anyway, we stayed up late just chatting and it was wonderful!!  On Friday I'm meeting with another lovely friend from Ontario who used to live in my hometown up north.  I cannot wait!!!!!!!  It's been a long time since I've seen her in person!  So looking forward to spending the day with her.  I love when friends make time for visits especially when they are in the area.  I know it can sometimes be tough fitting it in but to me it shows they really care.

I was talking to Sue about my old studio when we lived up north.  I went to the computer and found some old pictures.  I miss that place.....but I don't miss how it wasn't in the house....yet that's what made it special.  Here is what it looked like outside.....almost like a cute little cottage.

Did you notice the "button" on my sidebar.  The Farm Girl Vintage Sew Along?  I'm waiting for Lori's book to arrive and I also ordered the fat quarter pack!  I'm deciding whether I will make a whole quilt or each block (or several) and quilt them individually like little wallhangings.  I have a feeling the book will be here tomorrow....fingers crossed!!!!!  When you go to her blog, find the pictures of her house or at least sewing room!  Love the colors......so opposite of my decor!!!  Fun!!!

It's late again and I have some shopping to do tomorrow.....not for anything fun....dog and cat food.  Stuff like that!  I sat in my sewing room a lot today but didn't sew a stitch!  I think I made a plan though so here's hoping!!

Calm Before the Craziness

I thought I'd better write before Hubby and Son2 come home.  Then it will be Easter weekend and our home will be full.....ahhhhh love it!  Daughter2 won't be here as she has a hockey tournament out of town which is disappointing.  Oh well, I'll enjoy the rest of the family.  Must make my shopping list really soon!

I finished my quilt top with that yummy jelly roll.  It's off to be quilted with just a white flannel backing!

I really loved this fabric line.  My binding is the "orange"....we will see how it looks.  I usually use a darker border but this lighter one made it feel more feminine.

Friday was a beautiful day!  After work I drove to Cochrane to meet my friend Kim (her son was playing in a hockey tournament there) and we went up to the quilt shop, had ice cream then went for supper.  As per usual we had a great visit with lots of laughs! Yesterday Daughter2 had a hockey game in Calgary and oh, the downpour!!!!  Driving in that rain was almost like driving in a snow storm!  Once the game was over, the sun was shining and it was dried up!  Whew!  Her and I went to The Cheesecake Factory for supper.  Yummmmmm.

So I think that Spring has truly arrived although we know we can still have snow.  Here's the new mantle sign:

Nothing exciting on the agenda today.  I am fighting a potential doozer of a cold so will lay low and only wash our bedding and get a few groceries then relax with a hot beverage.  I'm sure this guy will be somewhere close by....my grand dog Gordon:

Whoa!

Sooooo time flies when you're having fun...or ignoring your blog!  This working mornings is cutting into my blogging time!  I used to either write in the morning or later at night when I went to bed and now I go right to sleep when I hit my pillow and have to get ready in the mornings....but enough excuses!

Spring...well almost.  Friday is the official first day and besides the dump of snow we got Sunday it had pretty much arrived here....but it IS Alberta and things can change...just wait 5 minutes!  Hyacinth is one of my favorite spring time flowers.....and it's all because of the scent.  Ahhhhhh!  

This has long since bloomed and is done and I currently have tulips and daffodils in vases but notice 

the tin?  Both my grandfather and my dad were beekeepers.  This is one of my grandpas honey 

tins....the stamp has faded and they spelled his last name with only one "t" but I cherish it.  I have a few of them but not my dad's.  I think it's because his were in plastic pails not tin ones...too bad.

Hubby was home last week.  When he was on his last week off we had gone to Costco and saw a work bench with some storage but it was a day or two before he had to leave and he didn't feel like putting it together beforehand....so we left it and as in true Costco fashion, they no longer had those work benches on his days off this time!  So he found a good, solid shelving unit and made his own 

work bench complete with power and a light....in true electrician fashion!!  Doesn't he look proud?

Yesterday was St Patricks Day and that was the chalkboard message on my mantle....the hand tattoo shows the perks of working in a Junior Kindergarten class! (Ignore the fat, wrinkly hand!!!)

But this week wasn't all about luck.....I have vowed never to drive on a Monday ever again! (For as long as I can help it!). This was Hubby's truck #2 that I drove to the quilt shop to have coffee with Mavis.....drove right into a sinkhole of sorts.  No damage to the truck (thank God!!!!  My other vehicle is at the auto body shop right now).  Scared the beejeezus out of me that's for sure!!!!!  The town was there repairing it before I finished my coffee and visit!

Another perk to working with little ones is catching germs.....I'm sitting here right now drinking tea with a headache, a bit of a fever and the start of a sore throat! Yippee.........not!

Sewing...Well Almost!

I'm getting ready to sew.....cut up my beautiful, springy jelly roll today!  I decided on a pattern and just went for it....while I watched curling.  Here are my stacks....ready to go!

Hubby sent me this pic today saying he saved the day by holding the crane up with his finger tips!!  Glad he's having fun at work!!

I had my "sad" boy today at work and he had a better day!  I'm happy to see improvement each time! Oh, and I walked to work today!!!!!!!! ;)

March Came In Like A Lion

It's been cold and today was crazy windy and snowy on and off!  Yuck....but we are to get plus temps this week....up and down, up and down!  Crazy!

Remember last post when I said I joked about never sewing again?  Well, I still haven't sewn but bought some yummy fabric the other day.  Fresh Cuts by Basic Grey.  I LOVE this line....so springy!!!  I do have a plan for it and had intentions to cut it out this afternoon but never got around to it.  Here is what I bought....drool!!!!!

I did get this ready to stitch...the April insert for the Live Simply frame....oops, it's wool!

The job is going great!!!!  The little guy I work with on Mon/Wed/Fri is a sweetheart!  He's been going to junior kindergarten since November so is doing really well!  My Tues/Thurs fellow started the same day I did.  Thursday was a much better day as he didn't cry the-whole-time! Yep, Tuesday he cried for almost 2 1/2 hours straight!  Nothing we did could distract him from wanting his mommy!!!  I sure hope tomorrow is a good day too and things get progressively better!!!!!  I love getting out of the house and I love how it's just the mornings.  Perfect!  I walked by this rock on my way to work the first day...it's been there since the flood but I pretended it was meant just for me!

Today was not a good start to the week.  I usually walk but mentioned how miserable today was.  Well, a van was wanting out of the parking lot so I quickly pulled into this spot, not seeing the stump....and I didn't feel anything either....I thought maybe the bottom black part of my front caught a curb stop....nope.  This is one of the pics I took of the damage....it's quite extensive so I will be off to get a quote for repairs.   Darn it!!!!!!!!!!!   Grrrrrrrrrr!!!!!

Tomorrow I plan on walking regardless of how cold it is!!!!!!!!

Hopefully I have some sewing updates in the next little while.  I can't wait to pop open that jelly roll and think Spring!!!!
