Lazy!!

Lazy, lazy, lazy!!!  I am having a lazy few days.  Not sure if it's the white skies and no sunshine or what.  Yesterday I had a NAP! A NAP....I never, ever nap!  I could have one today too but am not allowing myself to do that.  I have no motivation to sew or cook....nothing!  ARGH!  So I am writing a blog post!  😂

Still haven't decided on a new blog name.  Domain came about as a rhyme to Jane so maybe Jane's Insane?  HAHAHA!!!!!!!!  Nope, it's true but I won't go there.  😜 After telling you guys that my new followers were a bit "iffy" I realized I couldn't see any of 'them' listed under my followers so do not think that anyone listed there is "iffy".  😀

It's been awhile since we got a huge dump of snow but we did on Saturday so as soon as it was light enough on Sunday morning, Mr Plow (Hubby) was out clearing it away!!!  First clearing of 2020!  It was a bit heavy so out came the tractor.

I did sew on the weekend and made these quilt-as-you-go mug rugs.  They were to have three little hearts appliquéd on them but I had these hearts cut out of old quilts so I put one of them on each rug....I made four.  

Nothing too exciting (and they look much better in person)!  All stash fabrics of course (and these didn't put a dent into those fat quarters!

Pixie was back to the vets on Monday for bloodwork after her round of antibiotics.  Things are improving but aren't cleared yet so she is on one more round.  Because they can be a bit hard on the stomach the vet suggested giving her a spoon full of plain yogurt with the pill and she loves it!  Anyway, the levels in her blood that were worrisome as far as her liver was concerned, have really improved!  Whew!  I'm just hoping everything will be fine after this round although it was not suggested we go back for more bloodwork to be sure....just continue to monitor her....which freaks me out a bit but I have to trust this will all be okay.  🤞

I suppose I should be thinking about something to cook for supper.......double ugh! I don't mind cleaning our house or doing laundry but I sure could use a chef!!!!  Maybe one day when I'm rich and famous!  😂😂😂😂 (for what I don't know!!!)  

I hope everyone/anyone reading this has more energy than I do!!

I Need A New Name!

I need a new blog name!!!!!  I keep getting these followers who seem to be into sex stuff!!!!!  Do they think "Jane's Domain" is "Jane the Dominatrix"????????  I don't know how to stop just anyone being able to follow me and I don't know how to get rid of them! I'm sure they are truly disappointed when they read my posts!!!!!   I'm thinking if I have a different name maybe I won't get "these" followers. So give me suggestions!!!!!!  BE NICE!!!!!!  😂😆😜

She is Home!

Sorry for the delay in an update on Pixie.  I had a couple of friends text and email asking how she was so I thought I should update on here too.  💗

Friday afternoon we were able to go and pick her up from the vets. (Hubby even came home early so he could go with me!!)  After looking at X-rays and ultrasounds we were a bit disheartened.....seems there is a problem with her liver.  Something in/on/around it(?)  They really didn't know what it was.  She came home with a 10 day supply of antibiotics because the primary goal is to get her white cell counts down.  Well, when we let her down out of the truck, she was so happy to be home!!!!  She pranced around with pep!  😃  And she's been so perky ever since!!!!!

We really thought she was so much better after the discovery of the needle and thread and round of antibiotics but then she got worse.  Which has me wondering......did we not clear up the first infection??  Who knows how long that needle and thread had been in there....maybe she has been fighting this infection for months and months.....finally her body pushed the needle (foreign body) out to where it caused her grief while eating her treat and the vet could see it when we took her in.  Maybe the first set of antibiotics weren't enough and she didn't have them long enough?  We never had blood work done before last week....so maybe her white blood cell count was sky high then too.  And, if someone has an infection for that long, could it affect an organ like the liver??  I will be curious to see what her blood work shows after this 10 day cycle.  She sure is doing great!  Eating, playing, brighter all the way around.....like she hasn't been in a long long while.  (and I mean months!!)

I am expecting a call from the vet some time today.  I will tell her my thoughts....hope I don't sound stupid as she did say they didn't think this had anything to do with the needle....well, my gut is telling me different.  😉

Pixie Update

Just want to post an update on our Pixie after her bloodwork yesterday so I have it documented.  

Pixie had to stay overnight at the vets.  First time in her life she hasn’t been with one of us!!!!  It was a long night!  Her bloodwork showed she had an infection..white cell counts very high....so they gave her IV antibiotics and fluids.  Looks like bladder and kidney are okay so it might be her pancreas or liver.  Our vet will consult with the other vet and run more tests.  Oh that little thing!!!!!  I know eventually she will be okay but I think this is as hard on us as it is on her!  LOL  The vet said she will call this morning with an update.  I sure hope they figure out what is wrong and fast!  We need that little peanut back home!!!!!!  Phoebe is a bit confused too.  To say we had a fitful nights sleep is an understatement.  

Fingers crossed she is home today!

Red Sky in the Morning....

Well, our cold snapped has left thank goodness!!!!! The temperatures this week have been wonderful....above 0!!  This was a shot of the Chinook ridge I took while getting the mail.  The mountains were clear (you have to expand this wonderful cell phone picture to see them!🙄)  We were in cloud cover all day but you could see the sun in the distance! Glad it brought about warmer weather!!!

Last weekend we went to Calgary to celebrate this little monkeys 4th birthday even though her actual birthday was yesterday.  🎂  Oh she is something else.  What a personality she has and she's so smart and funny!!  She came home with us for a sleepover that night and was sound asleep blocks from her house!  Pooped out from the party!!  

 In the one picture she was shielding her eyes from the sparkler!   😂

I broke my pledge and ordered from Fat Quarter Shop this month.  I was nailed at customs and had to pay GST and the handling fee....almost $19 more to what I already paid for my order and shipping.....but look at the new fabric from Kim Diehl.......drooooooooool!!!!!  No plan for it but she has a new book coming out next month so I'm sure there will be a lot of ideas in there!

Yesterday I finished up this super simple quilt destined for our new grandson arriving in a month and a half.  Now to quilt it!  

This little cuties Mommy sent me this picture the other day.  She said there was NO way she could get him to wear this hat over the holiday season but he decided he wanted to wear it a couple of days ago and didn't want to take it off once he got to daycare!  Hey, as parents we have to pick our battles and there's no harm in wearing a Christmas hat after Christmas!!  😃

I am taking Pixie back to the vet this afternoon for blood work.  She had another of her screaming episodes night before last and the vet thinks maybe they are seizures.  Fingers crossed they can get her figured out and soon!  She hasn't been herself again this week.........😟

A Deep Freeze and Some Sewing

Good COLD morning!!!!!!!!  We are coming to the end of a COLD snap and when I say cold I mean cold.  -40C mornings and "warming up" to -34C during the day!  Tuesday I had a nail appointment at noon otherwise I wouldn't have left the house!  I did not go anywhere yesterday.  The only good thing about those past two days was that the sun was shining.  Today is a few degrees warmer (-28C) but it's cloudy.  Oh well, it is what it is and we deal with it here in Alberta, Canada!

Last week my friend Kim challenged me to make quilt top and sent me the pattern she drafted up.....she wants to try out a fancy quilting design on it and I was game for her to do that on something I made!  Here it is....super simple and all stash fabrics.  It finished 64 x 64 (or was it 65 x 65?)  I love the feather fabric that I used for the background....I remember it being on sale somewhere and I thought "what the heck...stash!"  I used it all up and I used up all the solid I used for the stars and outer border.  I popped the top in the mail for her on Tuesday and she should receive it today.

This little squirt and her Mom came on the weekend for a sleepover.  We will go to her 4th birthday party on Saturday and then she will come back with us for another sleepover!  She will turn 4 on the 22nd.......wowzers where did that time go?????  She is excited for her baby brothers arrival at the beginning of March.

When I was searching for hexagon templates I came across a project I had started but never finished.  These are made with a cute charm square pack that I got for my birthday one year from Son1 (picked out by Jenna!)  Here it is just set out in rows (there is one row missing) but I have the rows stitched together now....now to stitch each row to the other.

I've used this picture for reference a few times after sewing the first two hexies together to see which one was on the end!  

The Birthday Block Club has started with my sewing group.  We had one January birthday and even though her birthday isn't until the end of the month, we had sewing days at the beginning of the month so she received most of her blocks.  Here are my contributions:

We have two birthdays in February and I worked on the first birthday on Sunday.  I have struggled with these first two fabrics as they aren't my favourite but to each their own!!!!!!!  😳

I made my hexies bigger for this next ones BUT when I stitched them to the background I hadn't centered them right and would have had to keep the selvage so I trimmed it down and added a border...not my favourite block but I do like the pinwheel one:

I have the pinwheel block done for the next one but have to do the hexie one yet.  I am doing them by hand but machine stitching them to the background fabric.  I think I will do the same blocks for everyone except a couple of people.....maybe.  It is soooooo easy to do the same!!!!  

I am going to go shopping for Lyla's birthday gift and have decided to fill a bin with her very own craft supplies! I think it will be fun, fun, fun!  She LOVES doing crafts so I am hoping she will love this gift!  (I have already got the okay from her Mommy!!)  Laundry to be done today too so I'd best keep at it!

It's 2020!

Happy 2020!  My first blog post and it's already January 9th!! 😳 I came to sit in the sunroom this afternoon to write this....but had to go grab the vacuum cleaner!  I LOVE sunshine but it sure shows all the pet hair, etc!  Now I am good to proceed!  😁

I finished a few bindings recently.  The snowman was done awhile ago but I decided to put it on the kids bed for the winter.

Here is a Buggy Barn quilt pattern....and I can't think of the name of it right now.  It depicts the 4 seasons and I chose to do the appliqué in wool.  Kim quilted it with different seasonal motifs! Soooooo cool!!!   This top was done a long time ago.

Here is another Buggy Barn pattern I believe is called Garden Stars.  The kit came from a quilt shop in Lethbridge called Village Quilts....I bought it years ago and the top has been done for years!  I think it's pretty......maybe for my grand daughter.

My lipstick plant had a ton of buds on it....I have never seen it so full....and now they are blooming.

I posted the pics on Facebook and joked I have such an exciting life that I am fascinated by my blooming lipstick plant!  

When we moved into this little old house, everything was painted white-ish.  I painted the upstairs living areas and hallway a creamy white and did one accent wall "sun-dried tomato"  (a Benjamin Moore color) where our desk is.  Because I am moving towards less clutter and cleaner looking space, I kept staring at this red wall.......thinking I really should paint it the creamy white like the rest of the walls.  Today was the day!

I cannot believe how much bigger it looks in here!!!!!!  I am going to wait to see if Hubby notices tonight when he gets home from work.....I will try and not say a thing!  

Feels good to get that done.....there was no patching to do and it was only one wall so it went quite quickly!  Next on the list:  downstairs bathroom (still!!!!!)

Have you ever heard a dog scream?????  Before it was discovered that our Pixie had swallowed a needle and thread, she woke us up by 'screaming' one night.  It was short lived, but scared the bejeezus out of us!!!!  Once we found out she had that needle in her throat we kind of believed that the screaming was a result of that needle.....maybe it moved and poked her or something.  Last night Pixie screamed again.  😟  I called the vet this morning and booked an appointment (for tomorrow) for X-rays.  I googled "can dogs have nightmares" (because that is how we get our information in this day and age!) and found out that they can have nightmares and they can scream.  I am praying 🙏 she is having nightmares.  IF they find something (God forbid it's another needle because I will be banished to the basement, at the very least, if I ever want to hand stitch again!!!) then we can deal with it.  Fortunately, Pixie has been playful and eating well and just a new dog since the removal of the needle and thread. She has even lost just over a pound of weight.  I am hopeful that the X-rays tomorrow will show there is nothing there, and I can continue stitching while watching tv in the evenings and my husband can relax about it all too.  

We are headed into a cold snap.  It's to be expected I suppose....we do live in Alberta, Canada!  I hope it doesn't last too long.
